Palace of Phaistos

Palace of Phaistos

Minoan palace with grand views over the Messara plain.

Phaistos is Knossos's quieter, more authentic sibling. Few reconstructions, but genuine Minoan ruins on a hill with one of Crete's finest panoramas: the Messara plain, Mount Psiloritis and the sea beyond.

Experience the Minoan world without the crowds. Wander the central court, staircases and west court ruins. The famous Phaistos Disc was found here – now in Heraklion Museum.

Perfect for a relaxed morning. Combine with Kamilari cemetery or a swim at Matala or Kommos.

Tip: Sun protection and water – little shade. Early morning or evening for best light. Audio guide recommended.
